Healing Trauma is Possible

Healing from trauma is possible when we are met with love, support and compassion. When our rage, pain, and sorrow has a safe space to be seen and heard, we can begin to unravel the disbelief around what happened to us and make sense of our stories. The cold, icy numbness protecting our wounded hearts begins to melt and we start to feel again, and it hurts. The support and compassion we receive from those who walk beside us on this journey is a soothing balm, and true healing comes when we are able to offer compassion to ourselves as we peel back layers of the experience and expose shame, guilt, and vulnerability. Underneath the trauma and hurt inside each of us is a compassionate heart-center that knows who you are, even if you can’t feel it right now. What happened does not define you. You know who you are.

“I have crossed the horizon to find you.
I know your name.
They have stolen the heart from inside you.
But this does not define you.
This is not who you are.
You know who you are.”

My Approach to Healing Trauma

Trauma is in the eye of the beholder (C. Beck), and the body keeps the score (B. Van Der Kolk). PTSD is a natural nervous system response to overwhelming experiences where our needs to be seen, safe, soothed and secure are unmet. The latest evidence from neuroscience tells us that traumatic experiences turn off the verbal memory part of our brain, and some early traumas are preverbal. The key to healing is an integrative mind-body approach, releasing protective patterns that no longer serve you.
